The associate provost's main responsibilities include advising the president and the provost on all matters pertaining to the Institute’s international policies and programs, consulting with faculty on the development of international activities, helping to shape major new international initiatives involving multiple MIT units, and coordinating the development of strategic priorities for the Institute’s global engagement. He also sponsors the International Advisory Committee (IAC), co-sponsors the International Coordinating Committee (ICC), and, as a member of the Senior Risk Group together with the vice president for research and the vice president and general counsel, oversees a process for reviewing international engagements that may pose elevated institutional risks for MIT.
