About the position
The executive vice provost provides strategic leadership, guidance, and oversight for institute-wide academic initiatives, with a focus on fostering faculty excellence, institutional effectiveness, and the advancement of MIT’s mission. The executive vice provost is a key member of the Institute’s academic leadership team and serves as a primary advocate for faculty development and mentoring. They also oversee several key institutional efforts as the senior advisor for the provost. Primary responsibilities include:
- Leading and coordinating policies and processes that promote best practices for faculty advancement across the Institute, including hiring; mentoring; tenure and promotion; and reappointment and review, ensuring equity, consistency, and alignment with institutional goals
- Shaping the design and execution of faculty development initiatives and other Institute-wide academic programs in collaboration with the Office of Faculty Programs and related offices
- Enhancing institutional climate, culture, and community by serving as a trusted resource for faculty and academic leadership in navigating conflict resolution, professional development, and community-building efforts
- Serving as a key liaison between the provost's office and academic units, the chair of the faculty, and other senior leaders to ensure coordination of academic strategy, planning, and execution at the institute level
- Representing the Provost’s Office and senior advisor to the provost on both ad hoc and standing boards and committees as assigned.
- Establishing and leading faculty advisory committees as needed to gather diverse perspectives and guide the development of policies and initiatives that reflect the needs and aspirations of the entire faculty.
