Lorraine A. Goffe, Vice President for Human Resources, 2015–2018 |

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of MIT’s Employee Benefits Oversight Committee (EBOC), I am pleased to announce a new benefit under MIT policy. Effective April 7, 2015, MIT will provide up to 5 days of Paid Parental Leave to eligible mothers and fathers within 4 months after the birth of a child, adoption of a child under 18 (under 23 if the child has mental or physical disabilities), or placement of a foster child (under 23 if the child has mental or physical disabilities). This leave is available to all Support, Administrative, Sponsored Research Staff, Other Academic, and Medical employees after 1 year of benefits-eligible service; this benefit may be later available to Service staff after negotiations with the unions.

We are delighted to have this opportunity to further expand MIT’s benefits to new parents in our community. For additional parenting resources for MIT employees, visit the MIT Work-Life Center website.

If you have any questions about the Paid Parental Leave benefit, please contact your local Human Resources administrator or your Human Resources Officer, or visit the FMLA website.

Best,

Lorraine A. Goffe-Rush
Vice President for Human Resources
