MIT Schwarzman College of Computing update and community forum

To the members of the MIT community:

I write today to share an update on the MIT Stephen A. Schwarzman College of Computing and announce an upcoming community forum. Dean Dan Huttenlocher and the college leadership team will present a summary of the college’s initial organizational structure and details on its key activities and programs on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, from 2 to 3 pm in 10-250.

This work is the product of the working groups and the extensive community input process. I hope and expect to see continued engagement to define and refine this structure, with particular attention to how we build connections in computing between disciplines, and how we realize our vision to be intentional in contemplating the societal implications of computing. These latter two elements of the college are, for me, some of the most exciting; they also require the most collaborative thinking and experimentation so that MIT can lead the way in these important areas.

With the initial structure now in place, Dean Huttenlocher and his leadership team are moving forward with curricular and programmatic development in collaboration with the leaders of the academic units that are now part of the college and with departmental leaders across all five schools.

We hope you will join us at the community forum to learn more about how the college is taking shape.

Sincerely,

Martin A. Schmidt
Provost
