Invitation: Oct. 6 forum on Suri and Fisher reports

September 29, 2020
Martin A. Schmidt, Provost, 2014–2022 | Chair of the Faculty, 2019–2021 |

To the members of the MIT community,

Please join us next Tuesday to discuss the reports of the Ad Hoc Faculty Committee on Guidelines for Outside Engagements, chaired by Professor Tavneet Suri, and the Ad Hoc Committee to Review MIT Gift Processes, chaired by Professor Peter Fisher.

Forum on the Suri and Fisher Reports
Tuesday, October 6

4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. EDT

The forum will be a Touchstone-protected Zoom webinar. To join, you must log in to your MIT Zoom account.

The webinar will have live captioning. ASL interpreter available upon request.

You can find the Suri report here and the Fisher report here. (Once you click the report links, please log in via the Touchstone link in the footer.)

In releasing these closely tied reports last month, we invited comments via email, and continue to do so. The forum presents another opportunity to gather feedback about the critically important issues the committees worked so thoughtfully to address.

Questions are welcome, but we’re most interested in hearing your reactions. To ensure that everyone who wishes to speak has time to do so, we’ll ask all speakers to limit their comments to two minutes.

Separately, we encourage departments, labs, and centers to discuss the committees’ recommendations locally and submit memos summarizing those discussions. To allow ample opportunity for comment, we will extend the deadline for written comments by one week, to Friday, October 30. Emails sent to adhoccomments@mit.edu will reach us as well as Professors Suri and Fisher.

We hope to see you on October 6.

Sincerely,

Martin A. Schmidt
Provost
