To Members of the MIT Community:

I recently wrote to announce that Daniel Hastings will step down from his role as Dean for Undergraduate Education effective June 30. To allow sufficient time for a comprehensive and effective search for Dan's replacement, we are moving quickly in setting the groundwork for a search committee to begin its deliberations.

The faculty, staff and student representation on the search committee is now confirmed. My thanks to Graham Walker, who has agreed to serve as Chair. My thanks also to Steve Graves, Peko Hosoi, John Ochsendorf, Christine Ortiz, Julie Soriero, Gigliola Staffilani, Collin Stultz, Kai von Fintel, and Elizabeth Reed, Senior Associate Dean in DUE, who will assist Graham in this task. And my thanks to the student representatives: graduate student Chris Smith, and undergraduate students Grace Young and Anubhav Sinha.

I remind you that confidential comments, suggestions, and questions may be submitted to the committee through due-search@mit.edu. We welcome both specific recommendations for candidates and general qualities that you feel are essential for the next Dean for Undergraduate Education to embody.

I look forward to identifying Dan's successor during the spring term so that we can ensure a seamless transition on July 1.

Sincerely,

Eric Grimson
