Dear students,

We are writing to remind you that you have just a few more days to apply to represent the undergraduate student body on the Standing and Special Committees of the Faculty and the Standing Institute Committees Appointed by the President.

Why do these committees matter? Because the students, faculty, and staff who serve on them play key decision-making roles on issues that matter to you and to MIT’s future: our grading policy; financial aid support; diversity, equity, and inclusion programs; campus planning projects; and academic curricula, to name just a few.

We know how busy you are and how many extracurriculars compete for your limited time. But here’s why we think you should consider applying:

  • Undergraduate representatives on Institute Committees are full voting members alongside faculty and staff in making consequential policy decisions.
  • You will gain invaluable leadership experience from representing the student body’s diverse views, and you will help influence MIT’s student life and learning experience for current and future students.
  • No experience in student government is required. All you need is an interest in making MIT better.

You can learn more about the committees and apply here. The application deadline is Monday, May 2, 2022 but if you are interested in applying and need more time, please email davidandshruti@mit.edu to let them know that your application is in progress.

These committees need a wide range of student talent to serve on them, and we want undergraduate representatives to reflect the diversity of the MIT student body. That’s why we hope as many of you as possible will apply by Monday’s deadline!

Sincerely,

Melissa Nobles
Chancellor
