Represent students on Faculty and Institute Committees; Apply by 5/6

Dear students,

We are writing to encourage you to apply to represent the undergraduate student body on Standing and Special Committees of the Faculty and the Standing Institute Committees Appointed by the President. These are committees of students, faculty, and administrators that play central decision-making roles across a range of areas, including grading policy; financial aid; diversity, equity, and inclusion; campus planning; and academic curricula.

We know how busy students are and that extracurricular activities compete for your time and attention. But here’s why we think all undergraduates should seriously consider this incredible opportunity:

• Undergraduate representatives on Institute Committees are full voting members with equal say in discussing and making consequential policy decisions.
• This is a unique role at an unprecedented moment in MIT’s history. Institute Committees will be shaping the Institute’s post-pandemic future. Undergraduate committee members will have a seat at the table next to MIT’s senior officers, faculty, and administrators, and they will have a chance – and a responsibility – to represent the student body’s diverse views in the decision-making process.
• No experience in student government is required, just an interest in making a positive difference and making a better MIT for everyone.

These committees need a wide range of student talent to serve on them, and we want undergraduate representatives to reflect the diversity of the student body. We hope all undergraduates will think about taking part in representing student voices in the Institute’s decision-making process!
