Pay increase for postdocs

October 14, 2021
Maria T. Zuber, Vice President for Research |

Dear Postdoctoral Associates and Fellows,

I write to share good news: Today, MIT is announcing a special 3% pay increase for staff and faculty. Postdoctoral associates and fellows will also receive an increase.

As you may have read in MIT News, the Institute’s endowment recorded an unusually strong investment return during the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2021. It is this atypical increase in the value of MIT’s endowment that makes this pay increase possible. But it is your vital contributions to MIT’s mission that make this pay increase so well warranted.

These increases are effective December 1, 2021, for those with active appointments on that date. Here are additional details:

  • Postdoctoral associates will receive a pay increase equal to 3% of their salary, starting with their December 15, 2021, paycheck.
  • Postdoctoral fellows will receive a one-time payment, equal to 3% of their stipend. Information regarding the timing of this payment will be provided soon.

If you have questions about these pay increases, please contact your local HR administrator.

Postdoctoral scholars are an essential part of MIT’s research enterprise, making key discoveries and expanding the frontiers of knowledge across disciplines. On behalf of the Institute, I want to express my appreciation for your talent, creativity, and hard work.

Sincerely,

Maria T. Zuber
Vice President for Research
