Launching the search for the next vice provost for faculty
Dear colleagues,
With Professor Paula T. Hammond preparing to take on her new role as dean of the School of Engineering, we are launching an internal search for MIT’s next vice provost for faculty – a position central to supporting the academic life of the Institute.
This is a particularly important moment for MIT. As the landscape of research, education, and innovation continues to evolve, the need to support our faculty in creative and forward-looking ways has never been greater. The vice provost for faculty plays a crucial role in this work: strengthening faculty career advancement, recruitment and retention, and community and culture; partnering with departments and schools on strategic planning; fostering leadership and mentorship; supporting the conditions that allow faculty to pursue bold ideas with excellence and creativity; and handling oversight and planning responsibilities for campus academic and research spaces.
The next vice provost will build on our strong progress by shaping new approaches to faculty success across career stages and disciplines, and developing programs that meet the needs of our community. This is an exciting opportunity for a colleague who brings insight, collaboration, and a vision for supporting the faculty who define MIT’s excellence. You can learn more about the vice provost for faculty’s portfolio here.
If you would like to be considered for the role, please submit a statement of interest and a CV to vpfacultysearch@mit.edu by January 5. I will be convening a faculty advisory group to assist with candidate reviews and recommendations. We are also putting in place short-term plans to ensure continuity in the areas overseen by this position during the transition.
I look forward to identifying our next vice provost for faculty and to the continued strengthening of the resources and partnerships that support our remarkable faculty.
Sincerely,
Anantha P. Chandrakasan
Provost
