About the position

The vice president for information systems and technology (IS&T) and chief information officer (CIO) leads a team of more than 180 professionals who manage the information technology systems, applications, and infrastructure that support MIT’s academic and research enterprise. The vice president and CIO sets the overall vision for MIT’s digital landscape in support of its education and research mission.

As co-chair of the Information Technology Governance Committee, the vice president and CIO oversees the development of IT policy and strategy to ensure alignment with Institute priorities. The role also plays a critical part in maintaining the integrity and security of MIT’s digital environment amid growing cybersecurity threats.

The vice president and CIO works closely with the Business and Digital Transformation Office to advance MIT’s digital evolution and integrate modern administrative systems. They also support MIT’s computational research enterprise in partnership with the Office for Research Computing and Data (ORCD), working in shared leadership with the associate vice president for research computing and data to support the executive director of ORCD.

The vice president and CIO serves on the Academic Council and collaborates with internal and external partners, including ORCD, the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center, and Lincoln Laboratory. The role prioritizes cutting-edge cybersecurity, customer-focused IT services, and innovation in support of MIT’s broader mission.

The vice president and CIO also represents IS&T and MIT to external stakeholders and the higher education IT community, sharing insights and expertise to help others capitalize on technological advances.
