New Vice President for IS&T and CIO
Dear colleagues,
I am excited to share the news that Gaspare LoDuca will be joining MIT as vice president for information systems and technology (IS&T) and chief information officer (CIO), starting on August 18.
Gaspare is currently vice president for information technology and chief information officer at Columbia University. He leads the central information technology department, overseeing all of Columbia’s major information technology systems including applications, infrastructure, networking, and cybersecurity. He also heads an IT leadership council which provides IT governance across all schools and major departments at Columbia.
Throughout his 10 years in this role, he has modernized and strengthened the security of Columbia’s IT infrastructure, upgraded aging systems, created new dashboards and data-sharing platforms for researchers, and established more cohesive IT governance. He has prioritized innovation, customer service, and building bridges with school and department technology leaders. Before Columbia, Gaspare was a managing director at Accenture for nearly two decades, where he oversaw IT transformation and system implementation at a range of institutions of higher education, including the University of Miami, Carnegie Mellon University, and Yale University.
You can read more about Gaspare’s experience and approach to his new position in this MIT News story.
As vice president and CIO, Gaspare will lead the strategic direction and management of MIT’s enterprise digital infrastructure and facilitate information technology across the Institute, supporting systems, infrastructure, and platforms. He will work in close partnership with the Business and Digital Transformation Office to drive the Institute’s digital evolution and integration of modern administrative systems. He will also prioritize cutting-edge cybersecurity measures and customer-focused IT services. A member of my leadership team, Gaspare will serve on Academic Council, co-chair the Institute’s Information Technology Governance Committee, and collaborate with internal and external partners, including the Office of Research Computing and Data, the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center, and Lincoln Laboratory.
I believe that Gaspare will be an incredible asset to MIT, bringing wide-ranging experience supporting faculty, researchers, staff, and students and a highly collaborative style. I am grateful to the MIT colleagues who participated in the search process by advising on key attributes of this important role and reviewing candidates. I have listed them below.
Please join me in welcoming Gaspare to the Institute.
Sincerely,
