To the members of the MIT community,

Every day, MIT’s dedicated employees contribute their expertise to advance research, support teaching and learning, and bring together the Institute community.

We invite you to consider those individuals who have excelled in their work and submit a nomination on their behalf for the following awards:

The Gordon Y. Billard Award is given to a staff member, faculty member, or MIT-affiliated individual who has provided “special service of outstanding merit performed for the Institute.” Nominees for the Gordon Y. Billard Award must have made sustained contributions to the Institute for at least 10 years. The award acknowledges individuals who have made an impact beyond normal job duties and made important, lasting, and wide-ranging contributions to the MIT community.

The MIT Staff Award for Distinction in Service is given to a staff member whose service to the Institute results in a positive, lasting impact on MIT's community. It honors individuals who are dedicated to upholding MIT's core values and to building community, partnerships, and connections. Award recipients embody the personal qualities of kindness, humility, and strength of character, and are deeply committed to both the work and the people of MIT.

You may submit nominations for both awards via the Human Resources website at the links above. The submission deadline is Monday, March 24, by 5:00 p.m. ET. The Gordon Y. Billard Award and the MIT Staff Award for Distinction in Service will be presented at the June 2025 Excellence Awards and Collier Medal ceremony.

We look forward to your nominations and to celebrating the honorees in June.

Sincerely,

Cynthia Barnhart
