Dear Colleagues,

This letter is a brief follow-up to the report on MIT’s relations with China that was shared with the MIT community last fall. Implementation of that report’s recommendations is now underway in several MIT administrative offices. The purpose of this letter is to highlight recommendations from the report that may require actions by faculty and other PIs. While they obviously apply to work with China, most are relevant to our work with other countries, too. These recommendations are summarized for your convenience in this reference sheet:

Ten Key Points for MIT PIs When Engaging Internationally

We recognize that many faculty and PIs have questions and concerns about the risks of engaging in international collaborations. In this reference sheet you’ll find links to tools, resources, and offices to contact in order to help you make the most of your international collaborations while minimizing risk. Additional training and resources will be made available in the coming months. For now, this reference sheet offers a quick guide to navigating some of the situations you might encounter.

Sincerely,

Richard K. Lester
Associate Provost for International Activities
