Update on Library Services

August 21, 2020
Chris Bourg, Director of Libraries |

Dear Colleagues,

The MIT Libraries are eager to reintroduce services to safely provide access to physical collections this fall, and I write today to share our plans.

While many researchers and students have been well served by the extensive online collections and services made available by the dedicated staff of the MIT Libraries, we are aware that many scholars rely heavily on access to our physical collections for their teaching and research, and that lack of access has been especially challenging for them.

As soon as we have staff presence on campus, the Libraries will begin to offer services that provide access to physical library materials:

  • Starting August 31, we will offer digital delivery of items in general circulating collections and Distinctive Collections. If a digital copy cannot be provided through other means, we will scan material from our collections.
  • We are planning for a start date of September 14 to offer contactless pickup and delivery of whole works in general circulating collections.

Please see the Libraries Service Updates page for the latest information about these and other services for fall 2020, including course reserves.

All my best,

Chris Bourg, PhD (she, her, hers)
Director of MIT Libraries
