Town Hall, May 5, 2020, 4 pm Eastern

To the members of the MIT community,

As a community, the next big challenge we face from the persistent and shifting risks of Covid-19 is to decide how to structure and approach the weeks, months and academic year ahead.

Many leaders and working groups across the Institute are working intently on these questions. Now, to help the whole community understand the opportunities, dilemmas and trade-offs involved, I invite you to be part of the second in our series of community town halls.

MIT Town Hall: A virtual community gathering
Tuesday, May 5
4:00 – 5:15 pm 
We will share information about audio-only call-in and access to an American Sign Language interpreter by email on Monday.

After our first town hall on April 7, many people asked that the next one be more interactive – so it will be. Community members will be able to submit written questions live, and we will answer as many as time allows.

The town hall will begin with an expert update on scientific advances directly relevant to our community planning. We will then share the range of options we are considering for the coming months and take questions from the community. Finally, we will let you know about upcoming opportunities for members of the community to learn more and contribute perspectives, concerns and ideas to the ongoing problem solving.

I hope this process can help all of us feel more connected and better able to manage the ongoing uncertainty – while helping the Institute arrive at the decisions that will best enable us to keep one another safe and healthy, provide excellent educational outcomes and steady academic progression for students, sustain the momentum of our research enterprise and preserve the financial footing that supports our community and our enduring mission.
