Special Holiday Closing on July 6, 2020

To the members of the MIT community,

In a year of such relentless difficulties, we are delighted to be able to deliver a little unexpected good news.

MIT will observe a Special Holiday Closing for faculty and staff on Monday, July 6, 2020, in addition to the scheduled holiday closing on Friday, July 3, 2020, for the Independence Day holiday.

MIT, however, is a 24/7 community, which means that certain operations require continuous staffing, whether remotely or on-site. Hourly staff who work on July 6 will receive payment under MIT’s special holiday pay rules. Human Resources will follow up with an email on Pay Policies to administrators and managers with instructions on how to report time for this closing. The full schedule of Institute and Special Holidays can be found on the Institute Holiday Calendar.

Along with our warm best wishes for the holiday break, we also send our gratitude that, personally and professionally, you have all responded to our current shared crises with such energy, ingenuity, selflessness, grace and care for our students and each other.

With appreciation,

L. Rafael Reif, President
Ramona Allen, Vice President for Human Resources
