Special Holiday Closing, July 3, 2023

Dear colleagues,

In university life, the end of the spring semester always feels hectic and hopeful, joyful and a little exhausting. So I'm delighted to lift our gaze to summer and offer a bit of relaxing news.

On Monday, July 3, 2023, MIT will observe a Special Holiday Closing for staff and faculty. Because this comes in addition to our regularly scheduled holiday closing on Tuesday, July 4, this extra day will, for most employees, allow for a four-day holiday weekend.

MIT is a 24/7 community, which means that certain operations do require continuous staffing. Hourly staff who are required to work on July 3 will be paid under MIT’s special holiday pay rules. Human Resources will follow up with an email to administrators and managers with instructions on how to report time for this closing. The full schedule of Institute and Special Holidays can be found on the Institute Holidays Calendar.

As I have seen over and over even in my first few months, MIT's signature intensity and passion to make a difference are essential to its success. But reflection and the pleasure of human connection are pretty important too! So I hope this summer offers all of us a chance for both.

Sincerely,

Sally Kornbluth
President
