Seeking feedback: Draft from Ad Hoc Task Force on Open Access to MIT's Research
To the members of the MIT community:
I write to share a set of draft recommendations released by the Ad Hoc Task Force on Open Access to MIT’s Research. In July 2017, I charged this Institute-wide task force, led by Class of 1922 Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Hal Abelson and Director of Libraries Chris Bourg, with identifying ways in which MIT’s current open access policies and practices might be updated and revised.
After 18 months of gathering input from experts across campus and beyond, the task force has come up with policy and infrastructure strategies to further the Institute’s mission to disseminate the fruits of its research and scholarship as widely as possible. You can read more about the recommendations and the process of developing them in MIT News.
All members of the MIT community are invited share their feedback on the recommendations at an open forum on Wednesday, April 10, 3–4:30 p.m. in Building 56-114. You can also give feedback online at the task force idea bank, on the open publishing platform PubPub, or via email to the task force.
I encourage you to attend the forum and offer feedback to help MIT remain a leader in the worldwide movement towards more open access to research.
Sincerely,
Martin A. Schmidt
