Dear colleagues,

MIT Commencement is a time for everyone at the Institute to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating students. It’s also a time for community members to reflect upon the role each of us plays in supporting the Institute and its mission.

With that in mind, we strongly encourage staff to take an active role in Commencement festivities. We hope that many of you will work at Commencement this year and invite you to indicate your interest in participating through this online form.

MIT Commencement will once again encompass multiple ceremonies across several days during the last week of May, including:

  • The OneMIT Commencement Ceremony for all graduates and their guests in Killian Court on Thursday, May 29, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. ET
  • The Undergraduate Degree Ceremony in Killian Court on Friday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET
  • The School/College Advanced Degree Ceremonies, including doctoral hooding, beginning on the afternoon of May 28 and concluding on May 30.

Staff support is necessary – and vital – to the success of MIT Commencement. Among the staffing roles needed are those related to guest services, which includes ushering, translation, campus information, disability services, and generally ensuring that our guests enjoy these special days.

Due to the anticipated sizes of the audiences, staff members are especially needed for the three ceremonies in Killian Court: The School of Engineering & Schwarzman College of Computing Advanced Degree Ceremony on May 28, the OneMIT Ceremony on May 29, and the Undergraduate Degree Ceremony on May 30.

We encourage managers and supervisors to allow employees to arrange their schedules to accommodate taking part in these important events – and to join in! Over the years, many departments have chosen to work together at Commencement and teams of colleagues are very welcome. If your area would like to work as a team, you can include that note when you sign up.

Finally, please note that parking will be available on the days you participate in Commencement even if you do not have a parking pass.

Thank you for looking at your Commencement week schedule and giving some thought to helping at this year's ceremonies. If you have specific questions, please contact MIT Institute Events.

Sincerely,

Ramona Allen
