Dear colleagues,

As we prepare for Commencement 2025, which is quickly approaching, we write to provide details on the festivities and to urge you to take part. Commencement is a special opportunity for faculty and lecturers to celebrate the accomplishments of their students, so we strongly encourage you to participate in the ceremonies.

MIT’s Commencement celebrations will span three days, May 28–30, to reduce conflicts for graduating students and faculty who wish to participate in more than one ceremony.

  • The OneMIT Ceremony in Killian Court for all graduates will take place on Thursday, May 29, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. ET and will include the Academic Procession, speeches, and turning of the Brass Rat.
  • The Undergraduate Ceremony, with the diploma presentation, will take place in Killian Court on Friday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET.
  • Programs, Schools, and the College will hold Advanced Degree Ceremonies beginning on the afternoon of May 28 and concluding on May 30.

The full schedule is available on the Commencement website.

How to register and order regalia in Atlas

Please tell us your plans using the Commencement section of the MIT Atlas app on a mobile device or desktop or via atlas-apps.mit.edu in a browser. NOTE: Your assistant also has the ability to register on your behalf using the MIT Atlas app or atlas-apps.mit.edu.

Before using the MIT Atlas app to register, make sure you have the latest version of the MIT Atlas app installed on your desktop or mobile device. The MIT App Store has links to download or update the app from the Apple, Google, and Windows app stores. Questions about the MIT Atlas app should be directed to atlas-app@mit.edu.

To register, open the MIT Atlas app or go to atlas-apps.mit.edu, click the Commencement tile, and follow the prompts to indicate which ceremonies you will attend. You will then be walked through ordering rental regalia if you need it. Please note we no longer accept cash payments. Acceptable forms of payment at the time of pick-up include an MIT cost object number or a personal check made payable to MIT.

If you need regalia, please submit your request no later than Wednesday, April 23 to ensure your preferred-sized gown and specific hood can be ordered. After that date, registration will remain open and extra gowns, along with a selection of hoods from a limited number of schools, will be available.

Guest tickets

Faculty and lecturers do not require a ticket to participate in Commencement, but their guests do. To request a guest ticket, please email Professor Les Norford, chair of the Commencement Committee, at facultytix@mit.edu.

More information

The faculty pages on the Commencement website will provide detailed logistics and more information about all the festivities, including a faculty FAQ. Details will be emailed directly to participants as the dates approach. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please email the Executive Officer for Commencement and the team at commencement@mit.edu.

Commencement is an extraordinary milestone for our graduates. Your participation is an essential ingredient in making this a memorable event and will be greatly appreciated by the graduates and their guests. Thank you for making the effort to join the festivities.

Sincerely,
