MIT access to ChatGPT and Codex
Dear members of the MIT community,
We are pleased to let you know that, in response to requests from across our community, you now have access to frontier models from OpenAI – GPT-6 Astra and Sol – as well as Codex.
You can get to these models through Parley, which serves as our community’s platform for interacting with multiple generative AI models through a single interface. When you select the OpenAI frontier model you wish to use in Parley, you will be directed to the ChatGPT interface for use under our enterprise agreement. In addition, the use of older OpenAI models in Parley will no longer reduce your Parley credit balance.
MIT’s new enterprise ChatGPT licenses provide access comparable to a ChatGPT Plus subscription, while also providing the privacy and security benefits of MIT’s enterprise environment. To get started, log into Parley with your MIT Kerberos account via Touchstone. Please note that these licenses do not provide access to OpenAI’s APIs; access to any OpenAI API through the Parley platform will be charged at the current rates.
These are powerful tools that can help enhance research, teaching, and administration, provided that they are used to augment, rather than substitute for, human insight and judgment. We recognize that you may have questions about how best to use these tools effectively and responsibly. As a starting point, we recommend reading the report of MIT’s Ad Hoc Committee on AI Use in Teaching, Learning, and Research Training, which President Kornbluth shared with the community a few weeks ago. In the coming days the administration will share additional resources, guidance, information on communities of practice, and other support in the use of AI.
Finally, in addition to the new enterprise licenses, MIT has secured 250 Pro licenses to enable research activities for the current academic year. We will soon announce a process for applying for Pro licenses. Pro accounts created outside of this process will be charged at full cost.
