To the members of the MIT community,

As you may recall, on July 12 we wrote to tell you about the committee of students, faculty, administrators, staff, and members of the MIT Police that is conducting a review of the MIT Police department’s operations, and to invite you to join a focus group on campus public safety. We write today to thank those of you who accepted our invitation to provide information about your experiences with and observations of the MIT Police, as well as your thoughts and ideas about how public safety may be reimagined on the MIT campus. Because many community members wish to participate – and because we wish to keep the group sizes small to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard – we have added an additional focus group for the MIT community on Friday, July 30. Focus groups are organized and led by Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), an outside consultant that is working with the committee.

To register for one of the remaining focus groups, click on your desired date/time below:

  • Thursday, July 29, 4:00–5:00 p.m. ET
  • Friday, July 30, 2:00–3:00 p.m. ET

To ensure that we hear directly from members of the MIT Police, too, PERF has also scheduled a focus group for MIT Police only on Wednesday, August 4, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Members of the MIT Police can register here.

You can also share your thoughts with PERF by emailing MITPublicSafety@policeforum.org. Please provide your feedback no later than July 30, 2021.

To protect your identity, your name, course of study, department, or other identifying information will not be shared with the MIT Police or MIT administrators.

Thank you.
