Commencement 2023 ceremony schedule

December 7, 2022
Cynthia Barnhart, Provost | Melissa Nobles, Chancellor |

To the members of the MIT community,

We write to share important updates about the schedule and format for MIT’s Commencement 2023 ceremonies.

What’s new

  • MIT’s 2023 Commencement celebrations will take place over the course of three days rather than two, May 31–June 2, 2023.
  • The OneMIT Ceremony on Killian Court for all graduates will take place on Thursday, June 1 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Undergraduates will receive their diplomas on Killian Court on Friday, June 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Programs, schools, and the college will hold recognition ceremonies for advanced degree recipients between May 31 and June 2. The full schedule is available at the Commencement website.

What motivated these changes

The three-day approach to the 2023 ceremonies, which was constructed with input from the school and college deans, will reduce conflicts for graduating students and faculty who wish to participate in more than one ceremony, an issue we encountered last spring.

Additional information about Commencement 2023 will be available in the spring. For now, please familiarize yourself with the schedule and, degree candidates, please share this information as soon as possible with family and friends who plan to attend.

Sincerely,

Cynthia Barnhart
Provost
