Call for Nominations: MacVicar Faculty Fellows Program
Dear Colleagues,
I invite you to nominate faculty colleagues for the MacVicar Faculty Fellows Program, which honors the legacy of Margaret MacVicar by recognizing and celebrating exceptional undergraduate teaching at MIT.
While all fellows demonstrate accomplished classroom teaching, successful nominations will emphasize both the formal and informal learning that defines an MIT residential education. The nomination should address the significance of a candidate’s contributions outside the classroom, such as their work on course development, service as an advisor and mentor, innovative use of digital learning tools, or similar activities that illustrate commitment to educating the whole student.
All full-time members of the regular faculty are eligible, regardless of rank or other positions they hold. Because a history of sustained contributions is a key expectation, junior faculty members are rarely appointed. Fellows receive $10,000 per year during their term to support educational activities, research, travel, and other scholarly expenses.
The selection process is competitive. Nominations consist of a series of recommendation letters, the candidate’s CV, subjects taught, and a summary of student evaluations. The strongest nominations tell a clear story about why the candidate is exceptional, include specific examples of impact on undergraduates, and illustrate the significance of their work.
This year’s nomination deadline is Friday, November 20, 2026. Information about the MacVicar Faculty Fellows Program – including the nomination process, requirements, and tips for a successful application – is available on the Registrar's website and can be downloaded in PDF format.
If you have questions, please contact Assistant Dean Piero Chacon at pieroc@mit.edu or 617-253-9763.
Thank you for your help recognizing excellence in undergraduate education at MIT.
Sincerely,
Anantha Chandrakasan
Provost
