Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the MIT Climate Project Request for Proposals is now open to MIT faculty and principal investigators.

The Climate Project aims to build well-being for people and the planet by treating climate change as a deeply interconnected systems challenge. This first RFP focuses on three frontiers for exploration that are grounded in communities and designed to generate blueprints that can scale:

  • Building coastal resilience;
  • Decarbonizing ports and shipping; and
  • Designing data centers of the future.

We invite MIT principal investigators to submit bold proposals for projects ranging from $50,000 to $250,000 with indirect costs covered by the Climate Project. Up to $5 million will be available in this call. Proposals may span specific technologies, systems modeling, policy and finance, social and behavioral science, health, workforce, or community engagement. We especially welcome unconventional ideas and collaborations across disciplines.

The priority deadline is February 27, at 5 p.m. ET, after which proposals will continue to be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. Full details – including eligibility, scope, merit criteria, and submission instructions – are available on InfoReady and at climateproject.mit.edu.

MIT has always stepped forward when imagination and action are equally required. In that spirit, we hope you will consider contributing your creativity and expertise to the defining challenge of our time.

Sincerely,

Evelyn Wang
Vice President for Energy and Climate
