Vice President for Information Systems and Technology and Chief Information Officer
Gaspare LoDuca was appointed vice president for information systems and technology (IS&T) and chief information officer (CIO) in August 2025. In this role, he leads MIT’s IS&T organization, overseeing the Institute’s information technology infrastructure and services that support its research and academic enterprise across student and administrative systems, network operations, cloud services, cybersecurity, and customer support. He co-chairs the Information Technology Governance Committee, guiding the development of IT policy and strategy for the Institute, and plays a central role in MIT’s efforts to modernize business processes and administrative systems in collaboration with the Business and Digital Transformation Office.
LoDuca came to MIT from Columbia University, where he served as vice president for information technology and CIO beginning in 2015. At Columbia, he oversaw the IT department and governance committees for school- and department-level IT functions, ensuring the secure operation of the university’s enterprise-class systems. He fostered a culture of customer service and innovation, spearheading initiatives to enhance student and faculty experiences and advance the university’s research capabilities. Among his accomplishments were the development of a new student information system, the creation of a data-sharing platform for researchers and a grants dashboard for principal investigators, and the identification of emerging technologies for use in classrooms and laboratories. He also led a major modernization of Columbia’s technology infrastructure and implemented tools to strengthen the security and reliability of its IT resources.
Before joining Columbia, LoDuca was technology managing director for the education practice at Accenture, where from 1998 to 2015 he helped universities across the country develop and implement technology strategies and adopt modern systems. His projects included overseeing the implementation of finance, human resources, and student administration systems for clients such as Columbia University, the University of Miami, Carnegie Mellon University, the University System of Georgia, and Yale University.
LoDuca holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Michigan State University.
