To the members of the MIT community,

On behalf of the Institute, we are pleased to announce the creation of a new annual award to recognize staff: the MIT Staff Award for Distinction in Service. We invite the MIT community to consider colleagues and staff members whose efforts have had positive effects at MIT and to submit a nomination.

MIT staff members of all classifications (support, service, administrative, academic instructional, and research) are eligible for the award. Nominations may be submitted through March 18. Visit the MIT Human Resources website for information on award criteria and eligibility and to submit nominations. The first recipient of the MIT Staff Award for Distinction in Service will be presented at the 2022 MIT Excellence Awards + Collier Medal celebration this June.

This award was established to honor Assistant Provost Doreen Morris upon her recent retirement following many years of service to MIT. Doreen began at the Institute in 1978 and joined the provost’s office in 1985. MIT is proud to honor the legacy of a long-time staff member by providing an annual opportunity to celebrate the ongoing dedication of staff at the Institute.

Sincerely,

Ramona Allen, Vice President for Human Resources

Martin A. Schmidt, Provost

Glen Shor, Executive Vice President and Treasurer
