New VP for Human Resources Lorraine Goffe-Rush

Dear MIT faculty and staff:
 
I am delighted to share the news that Lorraine Goffe-Rush, Vice Chancellor for Human Resources at Washington University, St. Louis, will join MIT as Vice President for Human Resources (VP for HR) early in 2015.
 
We began a national search for an individual with the experience and qualities needed to lead MIT Human Resources after former VP for HR Alison Alden announced that she would retire this year; I am thrilled that we have found such an exceptional individual. Lorraine brings a deep understanding of the university environment, organization, and community; broad and progressive HR experience; and a collaborative leadership style.
 
Lorraine has been with Washington University for 14 years, beginning as Director of Employee Relations in 2000, and later holding positions as Director of HR, Assistant Vice Chancellor for HR, and Vice Chancellor for HR. She previously held HR positions at San Diego Gas & Electric Co. and at several hospitals in St. Louis. I am confident that her strategic focus, and her longstanding commitment to higher education, will serve the Institute well.
 
In making this announcement, I wish to express my gratitude to the search committee co-chairs -- Professor Thomas Kochan and Deputy Executive Vice President Anthony Sharon -- for their leadership, and to all of the members of the search committee for their dedication and service. Their work has been invaluable in defining the key attributes needed to fulfill the many demands of this important position, and in attracting an outstanding candidate to MIT. As we welcome Lorraine, I must also express my profound gratitude to Tony Sharon, who has acted in the capacity of interim VP for HR during this transition.
 
Lorraine will be relocating from St. Louis, and plans to begin transitioning to MIT in February. Please join me in welcoming Lorraine to MIT.
