Your advice in selecting a new provost

L. Rafael Reif, Provost, 2005–2012 |

To the members of the MIT Community:

I want to thank you for the warmth of your welcome since I was elected MIT's 17th president a week ago. I look forward to talking with many of you in the coming months as we explore the next chapter for MIT.

On July 2, a little more than five weeks from now, I will take on my official duties as president. To allow for a running start, I will need a new provost. I write now to seek your input and ideas.

The role of provost includes a variety of academic, budgetary and capital planning responsibilities that are central to the daily functioning of MIT. If you have insights or suggestions to help select the best candidate, I hope you will let me know through the following confidential email: provostsearch@mit.edu.

Sincerely,

L. Rafael Reif
Provost and President-elect
