tl;dr: New options for couples and groups seeking fall housing; 2018 Fall Housing Allocation closes 4/29; the Sublicense Center is a great option for affiliates who are off campus this summer, or who need housing for a limited time; contact graduatehousing@mit.edu with questions.

Dear MIT Graduate Students,

Thinking about fall housing can be taxing, so I am writing to share information about some great new housing pilots devised by an implementation team from the Graduate Housing Working Group.

Fall Housing Allocation and New Pilots

If you are seeking on-campus housing for the fall, please read about the Fall Housing Allocation, which closes April 29. Thanks to the hard work of several students, house teams, and staff, we have new housing pilots to offer: couples in single student housing and roommate selection as a group. All of these resources can be found on the Graduate Housing section of DSL’s website. You can also find a full list of important housing deadlines and links to recorded webinars about graduate housing. The Housing Office will also host webinars on April 17 and 24, so watch for more information on those soon.

Graduate Sublicenses

Hundreds of graduate students sublicense their on-campus housing to other MIT affiliates during the summer and winter breaks. This is a great option for affiliates and their families who need temporary housing. For residents, the income can help defray expenses while they are away from campus. The Sublicense Center for summer 2018 is now open, so please visit the site to list an apartment or room, to see what’s available, or to learn more.

Off-Campus Housing

Dealing with the Boston-area housing market can feel overwhelming. But, the Off-Campus Housing Office connects graduate students to resources including fee-free apartment listings, a roommate finder, application and lease reviews, and tenant’s rights information.

Please email questions to graduatehousing@mit.edu or call (617) 253-2811. David Friedrich, Jennifer Hapgood-White, and Tasha Coppett from DSL’s Housing Office are ready to help you.
