Dear colleagues,

In the midst of a long, chilly, beautiful spring, we write with welcome news of high summer.

On Friday, July 1, 2022, MIT will observe a Special Holiday Closing for staff and faculty. Because this is in addition to our regularly scheduled holiday closing on Monday, July 4, this extra day will, for most employees, allow for a four-day holiday weekend.

Of course, in a 24/7 community like MIT, certain operations require continuous staffing. Hourly staff who work on July 1 will be paid under MIT’s special holiday pay rules. Human Resources will follow up with an email to administrators and managers with instructions on how to report time for this closing. The full schedule of Institute and Special Holidays can be found on the Institute Holidays Calendar.

We hope that this long summer weekend will give us all the opportunity to enjoy simple pleasures with the people we care about most.

With appreciation and gratitude,

L. Rafael Reif, President
